Michel Gasco: Australian tour

Announcing ‘Songs From The Silk Road’, touring Australia’s East Coast this November, and featuring Michel Gasco (Spain) & Timothy Johannessen

Join us for a musical journey along the Silk Road, featuring traditional compositions from Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine, Syria and Turkey performed by Michel Gasco of Orontes and Badieh fame.

A Spanish multi-instrumentalist with deep roots in Silk Road music, Gasco masterfully performs on the oud and the Afghan rubab. His ‘east-meets-west’ approach to performance influses subtle influences to great effect – blues, flamenco and dense atmospheria meet with Levant, African and Iranian styles to create music that The Sydney Morning Herald has applauded as compositionally elaborate.

Gasco’s talents have been honed alongside Syrian masters of the oud Hussein Sasaby and Mohammad Qadri Dalal, alongside Afghan rubab legend Ustad Nasim Khoshnawaz.

Performing with Michel on daf and percussion is Timothy Johannessen, formerly of the classical Persian outfit Mehr Ensemble and current member of Black Aleph, which infuses Persian instrumentation with guitar loops and drones.

Gasco’s tour takes him across the Australian east coast, with a six-show run beginning in Melbourne in mid-November before performing in Sydney, Toowoomba and Brisbane.
